Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Response

Thematic Area 3: Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Response

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is both a cause and consequence of inequality, poverty, and disempowerment — and in rural Zimbabwe, it often goes unreported, unpunished, and unchecked. No More Tears Zimbabwe recognizes GBV as a public health emergency and a development barrier, particularly for women, girls, and children.

Our GBV Response programming prioritizes prevention, protection, and survivor recovery, rooted in dignity, confidentiality, and justice.

We implement community-based GBV prevention models that include:

  • Mobilizing GBV Watch Groups in high-risk communities

  • Conducting household and school-based dialogues on gender roles, consent, and power

  • Engaging faith and traditional leaders to challenge harmful norms

  • Using edutainment (songs, drama, storytelling) to shift community perceptions

On the response side, we provide:

  • Survivor-centered case management, including safe referral pathways to health, psychosocial, and legal support services

  • Emergency dignity kits for women and girls affected by violence

  • Secure, confidential digital reporting systems (under our HerProof innovation) to ensure safety, especially in isolated rural areas

  • Training for first responders — including village health workers, teachers, police, and religious actors

We also plan to pilot mobile GBV clinics in remote areas, offering safe spaces for disclosure, counseling, and care.

Our GBV work follows global best practices, including the Inter-Agency Minimum Standards for GBV in Emergencies, and aligns with Zimbabwe’s GBV Strategy and the Domestic Violence Act.

Every survivor deserves to be believed, supported, and restored — and our work ensures that no one suffers in silence.
