Economic Empowerment

Thematic Area 3: Economic Empowerment

Poverty is not just a lack of money — it is a lack of power, voice, and opportunity. In rural Mashonaland Central, economic hardship is both a driver and consequence of child neglect, gender-based violence, and school dropout. No More Tears Zimbabwe addresses these root causes through our Economic Empowerment thematic area, which focuses on building household resilience, especially among female-headed and caregiving households.

Our primary model is the formation of Income-Generating Clusters (IGCs) — self-organized groups of vulnerable women and caregivers who are trained in business development, group savings, and cooperative marketing. We plan to establish at least 30 IGCs, reaching 600 members across our target districts over five years.

Key components of this thematic area include:

  • Skills training in agriculture, poultry, soap-making, tailoring, and other rural enterprises

  • Start-up input support (seeds, tools, raw materials) to boost production

  • Village Savings and Lending Associations (VSLAs) to promote internal savings and access to micro-loans

  • Mentorship and coaching on basic financial literacy and market linkage

  • Gender-responsive value chain development and access to buyers

We prioritize women with a history of GBV, caregivers of OVCs, adolescent mothers, and child-headed households.

Our goal is not just income — but restored dignity, independence, and decision-making power within the family and community. Through this, we break cycles of dependency and enable families to stand on their own feet.
